Plan Weekly Family Meals Using Visual Mind Mapping

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

In today’s world, households with both parents working are common. As a result, those in charge of family meals must balance planning them with busy work schedules and little time to do so. For these parents, having an organized way to plan meals ahead of time is extremely helpful and time saving, and a Visual Mind Mapping tool may be just the needed thing. With Visual Mind Maps, parents can organize a week’s worth of family meals into one, highly creative, and conceptual diagram. In addition, parents can make use of the colors, graphics, and images in one spatially formatted Visual Mind Map, to make meal planning easier and more intuitive. Thus, busy parents can use Visual Mind Maps to make the process of organizing daily meals something they can effortlessly fit into their schedules.

What are Visual Mind Maps and How Are They Created?

A Visual Mind Map is “a means of organizing information that allows individuals to create diagrams, pictures, and other graphic visuals in order to show the relationship between ideas or other types of information”. With a Visual Mind Map, the creator makes use of colors and symbols to construct the map and represent his or her ideas in a non-linear format. When creating a Visual Mind Map, the individual usually begins by showing the key concept or main idea of the information as a graphic image, located in the center of the map. Any themes surrounding the main idea are shown on “branches” that are attached to the central image. Subsequent themes of less importance are then attached to these branches using “child branches”, and so on. The resulting diagram is a “map” of the ideas and information presented that includes the images, visual graphics, and colors the individual associates with each of the themes and ideas.

Planning Meals for the Upcoming Week Using a Visual Mind Map

A busy parent has been struggling to stay on top of planning delicious and nutritious meals for her family. She, therefore, decides to ease her struggle by using a Visual Mind Map to help her plan meals for the upcoming week. She begins constructing her map by placing a representative image in the map’s center. She then divides the map into sections representing each weekday via “branches” that she attaches to the central image. The parent then asks her family members to suggest food items they would like to eat during the week and lists the items on “child branches”. She continues listing suggested items on the “child branches” until she has a grouping of items for each day that make a complete meal. Throughout the Visual Mind Map, the parent uses colors and images to make the meals easier for her to conceptualize and remember. When she has completed her map, it looks similar to the attached Visual Mind Map diagram.

A Successful Week of Family Meals Thanks to the Visual Mind Map

Each day during the following week, the parent has no trouble preparing meals for her family. Having “mapped out” ahead of time what the family will eat each day, she finds she can easily take care of doing so. The map’s spatial layout makes consulting the map for the each day’s meal simple, and the highly associative visuals in the map make remembering what items to pick up easy. The result, for the parent, is a stress-free week of ensuring her family gets daily nutritious meals that they all enjoy. The parent, thus, finds Visual Mind Mapping a perfect solution to her once problem of figuring out what her family will eat.

Understanding Your Children

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

David Artsmith  -  A child is the most precious thing in the world. It represents the future. When you care for a child, you are nurturing the next generation of humanity, and the next age of life on this planet. That is why it is important to make time for your kids. Life is busy, the world moves faster and faster every day, and there are constantly new distractions to take our time away. It is important to prioritize your time and put your kids first.

One of the things that you can do is try and incorporate your kids into activities that you already find fun. If your a baseball fan, start bringing them to games. If you prefer opera, then teach them something about opera. If your into interior decorating, help them to makeover their room in a cool new theme.

However there is one important thing to note. Your kids won't always like what you like. Sometimes a love of NASCAR skips a generation. That’s why you have to be open to new experiences, and try and have as broad a perspective as possible.

You can start by trying them out on a variety of activities that you enjoy. But just because the two of you don;t agree on a particular activity is no reason to be discouraged, simply move on and try something else.

On the other hand, you have to be willing to try new experiences when they show an interest in something. Even if its not something that you are extremely excited about. You don’t have to be a fake; you just have to be willing to give everything a chance. There are an infinite number of ways to pass the time, eventually the two of you will agree on one.

The most important thing is to make an effort. Too many parents sit their kids in front of the TV all day and ignore them. Instead try to engage them, get to know them, and nurture them while they are still young.

Things To Consider About Presents For Your Loved Ones

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

When you go out to buy gifts for you loves ones you really should spend time thinking about them. What do they like? do they have a particular passion that you could tap into? do they have something they really need but haven’t got the time or money to go and get? think about these questions and more when choosing your gift for them.

What you get them will also depend on the occasion and on the person. You might be getting your close friend a birthday present. You might be getting an anniversary gift for your partner. Or you might be getting a congratulations gift to a new mother. Therefore what you end up buying really needs to match the occasion.

For example, if you were going to get a gift for a friend of yours who has just had a baby you might want to get them something related to that. Think about the sorts of thinks they might need such as a book about baby proofing or perhaps a dect baby monitor for your the child’s room so that they can keep an eye on their baby as it sleeps. These gifts are not like other exciting or funny gifts but they are practical and will see a lot of use.

For your son hitting their 18th birthday, you will want to really put a lot of thought into what they would like to get. Think about the things that they love to do. Do they have a certain passion or a hobby that you could help with? maybe they love football so you could get them tickets to their favorite match and some matching clothing. Maybe they love music so you could get them a left handed electric guitar or a drum set.

With these sorts of gifts you need to consider how much you want to spend and what the occasion is. You may well be spending a lot more on your partner for your anniversary than you would for others. If you are flush with money then you can splash out as you want. Got a mate coming up to 30 who loves doesn’t know how to ski? get them some salomon ski equipment for a joke. It might be expensive but if you have the money then it won’t matter.

However, you always need to remember that it is not the price that counts but the thought. Some of the best gifts can be those that have been made or some sort of personalised present. You could even simply prepare a lovely dinner that would be counted a gift.

These are some things to remember when thinking about what sorts of gifts to get.
