A look at the Benefits Provided With The Use of Creative Healing in Play Therapy

Monday, February 1st, 2010

One of the ways by which people show their true emotions and thoughts as well as explore the idea of self and social interactions is through the avenue of playing. In some cases however, some children are stopped from playing thereby limiting the experience they otherwise would have gained. In the current administration of therapy, popular forms of treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy may seem to pass the importance and possibilities of play altogether, but there are some new types of therapy that work closely with the concept of play to allow for the incorporation of the many benefits of creative exploration and expression .One important advantage of play therapy is that it permits children who are unable to voice hidden fears, doubts or insecurities to still communicate  with their therapist.

With its understanding and use of the ability carried by children to communicate in creative ways, play therapy is able to provide an avenue through which children can communicate . Children have been shown to be more open to engaging in  creative scenarios relating to events than they are to actually engaging in direct conversations. As a result of this means, Therapists are therefore able to better understand the way a child might feel about an incidence during the course of therapy

But the uses of play therapy do not stop with its ability to enhance communication between child and therapist, it is also used in increasing a child’s relation with himself and society. Play therapy allows children reach out to society without the requirement of words.
